Our latest adventure led us back to the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. We started our day with Otter Falls Trail. It is a hidden little gem, located in the resort community of Seven Devils, not too far from Banner Elk and Blowing Rock.

The trailhead parking lot is not very large, but there’s plenty of signage leading up to it, making it easy to find. The trail itself is not very well marked, but by no means too complicated to follow. As always, it’s a good idea to take a photo of the trail map on the sign, before you start.

It’s a little over a half a mile down to Otter Falls. The hike in isn’t bad at all, but coming back up is a bit strenuous in spots. Along the way we saw several colorful wildflowers and a variety of beautiful vegetation in the forest. Surprisingly, we didn’t come across any wildlife.

Otter Falls isn’t a large waterfall, but it is very beautiful and well worth the short hike. There is an observation deck from which you can view the stream, as it spills over a rock ledge, onto the moss-covered rocks and into a shallow pool below. It then continues onward through the rocks and forest. Such a peaceful and serene environment.

As you’ll see in some of the pictures below, you are by no means confined to the deck. There’s a stairwell that leads down to a path, that runs beside the mountain stream and provides for several photo opportunities. Also, the water is shallow enough in spots to wade in, if your heart so desires.

Otter Falls trail is a very beautiful piece of nature and well worth the visit. I do hope you enjoy the photos below as much as we enjoyed taking them. Also, please be sure to check out the rest of the blog while you’re here. There you’ll find plenty of pictures from other adventures we’ve taken in nature.

The second part of our adventure led us to the mystical, magical Land of Oz in Beech Mountain. You can find these photos on Life’s Precious Dance Facebook page. Thanks for stopping by today. I look forward to sharing another adventure in nature with you soon. Have a great day!
